Metrology is the science of measurement. It covers all theoretical and practical aspects of measurements, whatever the fields and applications. In the modern society, every aspect of our life will inevitably involve metrology. For example, our mobile phones are full of sensors to measure acceleration, rotational speed, light, sound and even altitude and magnetic field. Your smart watch can measure your heart rate and blood oxygen level besides telling you the time. You purchase food from the supermarket and numerous tests have been conducted on them by analysts behind the scene. Also, in time of pandemics, metrology has come to our defense. In this symposium, we have selected several interesting topics around our daily life to share how metrology plays its role. Taking this opportunity, the recent development in the transformation of the International System of Units (SI) to the digital world led by the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) will also be reported in this symposium.
計量學是一門與測量相關的科學。它涵蓋了在不同領域和應用上的測量理論和實際方法。在現代社會中，我們生活上的每個環節都無可避免地涉及計量學。例如，我們的手機安裝了不同的傳感器，可用於測量加速度，旋轉速度，光照度，聲音甚至高度和磁場。我們的智能手錶除了可以顯示時間外，還可以測量心率和血氧水平。從超市購買的食物，背後有化驗師進行了無數的測試。在疫情中，計量學亦協助我們防禦。在本次研討會上，我們會舉出一些有趣的例子，以分享計量學如何在我們的日常生活中發揮作用。研討會還會藉此機會報告由國際計量委員會（CIPM）領導的國際單位制（SI）數字化的最新進展。
